  •  The Cold War analogy still applies (4.00)
"Problem is, the Vietnam/Iraq comparison contains gaping holes of context, like, um, the Cold War. "

The new context is simply a replacement of the old.  I would like to point you to Noam Chomsky's "Detering Democracy". Terrorism has replaced the Evil Empire as an effective method of subverting the citizen's interests. With the CCCP searching for a place in the history books the corporate elites are faced with the dilemna of finding a suitable "enemy" for America. Islamic fundamentalism is not only something we have helped to spawn but is something that helps encourage increased economic suicide on the part of American workers. If it were not for the ambiguous fear of terrorism Bush's tax cuts, social spending cuts, and deficit spending would be dead in the water.

The War on Terror will never see victory as long as these treasonous hypocrites hold power.

    •  Good point (none)
I wasn't looking at it from the PR perspective, but you (and, of course, Lord Noam) are right - there always has to be a boogeyman out there to justify whatever the government's doing to "protect the people."

And you're right about that last bit, too.  The aggravating part of how very intentional are the reasons behind every aspect of your last sentence.

See! There is Jackson, standing there like a stone wall!
