    Yes, I am trying to understand.  The observations I have been making about the lack of respect for human life actually conflict with a strong belief I have that human beings are basically morally equivalent, regardless of culture.  I don't think that Middle Easterer's are less moral than Westerners.  If I did, it would be a simple matter to say "Well, they aren't as good as us, how else would I expect them to behave?".  There would be no conflict. I don't expect an animal to have the same moral values as a human being, but I do expect human beings to share certain values, like loving your children and hating to see innocent people killed, which is why it confuses me to see people apparently acting so callously. Even bushco, which is as good an example of callousness as I can imagine, would do something if a festival resulted in hundreds of deaths in the U.S.
