    for twenty years, I feel okay about saying that
    admission criteria for ICUs vary widely. In  the large, urban teaching hospitals where I worked STICU, SICU, ER and RR, only patients with multi-system trauma would be admitted.

    For other ICUs, especially in tiny hospitals way out in the sticks, a simple feeding tube is enough to get you admitted. In point of fact, unless we are there at the bedside, it's impossible to know exactly what the injuries are, and exactly what underlying disease may or may not be present.

    My take on the doctor's comments is that these are a description of what MAY have happened, not what DID happen.  And I thank her for taking the time.

    Having only seen GSWs from large bore guns, I'd be interested in fnding out how much penetrating trauma is possible from 28 gauge shot.
