  •  The whole War on Terror is a sham (3.62)
Can people listen to the truth? I can rationally explain the real reason for the "Global War on Terror" in one paragraph.

It is GREED, plain and simple. You see, with the collapse of the Soviet Union, it was hard to explain the GIGANTIC U.S. defense budget to the American people. So the Military Industrial Complex/Big Oil/Big Construction (i.e. Carlyle Group, Halliburton, Lockheed Martin, Boeing) had to come up with a new decades-long, ill-defined global conflict to create demand for military spending. What did they come up with? A Global War on Terrorism. Two wayward sons of leading families were groomed to be puppets for the two sides of this new Global War. Both were already in a good position, W from having worked on his father's campaigns, and Bin Laden for having been a mujahideen leader in Afghanistan. They both are black sheep sons of the Carlyle Group Empire. George W. Bush is placed as head of the free world, and Bin Laden is placed as head of world terrorism. Are people this stupid? 2 Black sheep of the same business interests get placed as the leaders of both sides in a new global war and nobody is suspicious by this? Who has the global war on terrorism really helped? Military Industrial Complex / Big Oil / Big Construction.

      the elephant in the room.
    •  It was just a matter of time. (none)
I stopped buying the "commies are out to get your grandmother" thing long before Reagan was gone.  When the Berlin wall came down you could almost feel the powers that be scambling around for a new enemy to justify our insane defense spending.  I remember H.W. saying in the State of the Union address: "The world is still a dangerous place."  Lest any of us think we might spend some of that defense money on schools, roads, health care or infrastructure.  Luckily Hussien invaded Kuwait.  Hurray!  Call CNN!  Parade the expensive war planes in front of the cameras!  When Bush II took office I said, "We'll be at war in the middle east in two years."  But THIS enemy is the best.  THIS enemy is everywhere and nowhere.  This enemy can never really be vanquished, we can never declare a victory and send our boys home to a ticker-tape parade.  Endless war, endless fear, endless military spending.  Lots and lots of money to be made, and its all coming from our paychecks.  We are fighting a phantom.

      If not for the cat,
      And the scarcity of cheese
      I could be content.

    •  If you haven't see Why We Fight yet, (4.00)
You should go, it's a great film, and it basically presents your theory in a very clear and visually arresting way...
