To forgiving the man is that we found out that ALL THE WASTED MONEY HE'S SPENT went into controllable and clean Fusion power. And it's about to come online.
'Cause at this point... it's just another talking point to get people to vote Republican. It all goes bye-bye come November, one way or another.

    •  Woah, I'm not saying forgive Bush... (none)
Far from it.  Nothing excuses an illegal war, the attack on our civil liberties, the excessive secrecy, the grab for the power of a unitary executive, the environmental damage, the greed, the corruption, the lost money, the lost lives on 9/11 that he should have prevented.

I'm saying... much like a current recommended diary, that we've become so comfortable in our good guy / bad guy thinking that we'd be completely blindsided if the bad guy did something "good", or just something the public thought was good.  Granted, someone like him would probably be doing it just to win back public favor (and cut in his corporate friends on the action.)

But the problem is that we here have so much trouble even dealing with the merest concept that this could be.  How would we deal with the reality?  This is why the right-wingers run circles around us.  Even though I tend to feel that we're mostly right and they're mostly wrong, that kind of thinking can trap us.  It already has... even if it's just a bunch of crap, he's co-opted us on one of our major issues.

He's already getting more press on the issue that anyone our our side... and that's a shame.  The trouble is we don't take Bush seriously at all on this and many issues... and so if he did actually manage to do something, we'd be knocked on our asses and wondering what the hell happened.

      •  Okay... I'll give you that point (none)
about the fact that he may actually have something. But still, if it's about changing over to alternative fuel sources, the switch over is going to be unpopular no matter who does it. Gas is one hell of an addiction. And people don't like new things just shoved at them.
(Then again, maybe this President saying that we have to switch to alternative fuels for cars, no if's, and's, or but's is a good idea. If you're going to be unpopular, you may as well do the unpopular thing along with it. And succeed in making a change in the whole economy of our country along with it...)
You're right. And my previous post was a bit over the top. (But I want my controllable mister Fusion!!!).
