  •  Don't get the impression that only Europeans (none)
    eat the Nile perch.  It's consumed by Africans all along the Lake.
    I lived a couple of years in a small fishing village along the shore of Victoria and can attest to the Perch taking over.  The main traditional diet of the Luo are Tilapia and Omena (small caviar-like fish). The Perch is reducing the population of these native species considerably. But the people eat the Perch with gusto! It's a large meaty, highly nutritious food.  Most preserve it by smoking them on skewers.
    One day, there will either be only Perch in Victoria, or some unknown fungus will kill them off, and the Tilapia and Omena will get back to normal.  
    There are far worse "nightmares" lurking in Africa than this.
