    Hmmm, scary thought. We get our drinking water from the Rhine. Of course, the water goes through all kinds of purification systems but I don't know anything about those and their effect on viruses. Does anyone here know for sure?

      But I think most drinking water is treated with diluted chlorine to rid it of this kind of threat. I'm pretty sure this would kill off anything harmful.

        the threat comes from the poops in ponds, on lawns, etc. But in truth, that's a threat to other birds. Human disease from wild birds is near non-existent.
