... and let them do their work.

I can guarantee you that's what the major buyers are starting to do. Overalls and eyeballs are not always the story. Smart buyers are going to get out during the slide because they know that an uptrend is a rich pool to fish in and that a downtrend has a lot of weeds and stagnant water in it.

Few ad buyers can afford to let ideology intrude on their decisions; it's all cold calculation, stat-mongering and market savvy.

More important than numbers are the demographics, which is why media buyers focus more on who the audience is than how many (how many is important too, but the who will tell you your true ROI).

It would be interesting to see the demographics of the respective audiences. If Olbermann has a significantly better demographic, then ad time on his show could easily match O'Reilly's in value.

All this said, however, Randi Rhodes has the keenest insight into why the media are GOP-dominated: because the GOP delivers the kind of cartel-like playing field that Big Media players want. Free markets are for losers when you can have fascist oligopolies.

There is a market there.  Look at the number of hits that Kos gets on a daily basis - from 600k to 750k per day on average.  Look at the latest numbers in LA for right-wing radio and then look at the growth for Air America.  I'm not saying that the media will all-of-a-sudden turn left.  What I am saying is that there is definitely and underserved market.  With good demographics.  That spend money.  Somebody will want to tap into that market.  It is one of the few things that give me hope.
