and don't be apologetic and don't cower. Tell the fucking blowhards who call you to fuck themsleves and ask tell them you're taping the calls and you consider it harassment and will press charges and bby what right and authority do they call you and the others.

    They've got nothing.

    You didn't do it.

    •  I second that... (4.00)
... you've really figured out how to take them on their own ground.  It's going to become our forum--when we're the only ones calling.
    •  DON'T say... (none)
"I'm recording this/these calls." Many states make it illegal to record calls without the knowledge and/or permission of both parties. If you tell the caller that you're already recording the call, they very well could try to have you prosecuted.

DO say something to the effect of, "Do you mind if I record this call, so that I have documentation in case I decide to sue you for harrassment?"

IANAL, so if any lawyers are reading this, let me know if I'm wrong.

I used to work in radio; we had to tell callers whether we were recording or not.

For a private citizen who suspects a harassing phone call, you can say "I'm recording this call," and if the Faux security guy says "That's not OK with me" then you say "Well, then, why don't you just go fuck yourself in the ear, pal?"

You don't have to ask permission if you believe the call to be harassing and suspect a recording will provide evidence, and if you record the part where you tell the caller that you are recording. The key is to make the statement on tape that you warned the caller that he or she is being recorded, because then the'yre free to shut up or hang up.

        I am the federal government.
