  •  Overuse of capitals (none)
In the post that you linked to here, I capitalized 2 words out of hundreds.

    I do not believe you.

In the last diary, you suggested that I was violating Netiquette by capitalizing occasional words for emphasis - words that I would say louder and with differing emphasis were I having the conversation out loud. I provided links to three sites that supported my occasional use of capitalization of words for emphasis.

So NOW are you suggesting that my post, full of hundreds of words, would be easier to read if I did not use uppercase on TWO words?

    I do not believe you.

Once again, YOU are making this personal. And that's not what is supposed to happen here.

Ad hominem attacks make the person the issue, rather than their message.

A message in ALL caps is harder to read - they have done studies that have documented that all caps are more difficult for the average person to read quickly. That is quite different than having an occasional word that is in uppercase.

Or are you trying to say that THIS post above is easier to read because it only has 2 capitalized words? Well, sorry, but my other posts didn't have that many either.

    I do not believe you.

You could send me an email if you wanted to address a personal issue.

This forum is not the place. When you do it on this forum, you are making a personal attack.

    ...but not your own facts.

I noticed you did not overcapitalize in the comment above. My response was a compliment that your post was easier to read. I was being sincere.

A compliment is not a personal attack.

      •  I NEVER overcapitalized (none)
So you bringing up capitalization is a personal attack, which has no place in this forum.

You saying 'you did better here than you previously did', when I did NOT mess up before, is a personal attack.

My earlier posts were not hard to read.

Research has shown that posts that are in all caps ARE harder to read than posts that are not in all caps.

Posts that use uppercase to emphasis certain words or phrases have higher levels of reader comprehension - there are fewer instances of misinterpretation with some capitalized words to emphasis points and give a better flavor to the writing. It's called "paralinguistic function" - use of distinctive typeface or style to communicate more than that which the words say about the message content. Really, it's okay to use caps to emphasis like I do.

I did not ever type in all caps. I use capitalized words occasionally, for emphasis, just as I would in oral conversations. And those kinds of uses help improve comprehension. There have been studies done on this very topic.

        ...but not your own facts.

      •  OK, add this to the list (none)
Two things that are "personal attacks":

        1.  disagreeing
        2.  complimenting

That's not leaving a lot of room for making comments that are not personal attacks.  Maybe agreeing, but not in a complimentary way?

          Could you believe that reply?
