    Hoping they'll sign on..

Oh, and interesting info on Jackson - I thought I was pretty up on political history, but that one I didn't know.  Thanks Georgia10!

Emails don't work because they can't tell for sure that you're a constituent. And they don't read them. Call or fax or snail mail.

      •  good general advice, I agree... (0+ / 0-)

but from where I am, the international call is rather steep to do on a regular basis.  And my two senators are quite used to my email address by now and I usually get good response from their offices.  Work faxes are all that's available to me, and, well, for ethical reasons I can't use work machines for political stuff.  Snail mail takes weeks.  Anyway - I agree entirely on your advice, just hoping what I can do will still help.

I just sign my email w/ my mailing address which imo makes it plenty clear if I am their constituent or not. ;)

but we've had hill staffers write diaries here, and I've read and heard elsewhere that email is the least effective way of communicating, that many offices don't respond to email or don't read it for extended periods of time. Some do and some respond to emails, as the person above indicated, but calling and faxing are more effective, and more dramatic for the office, too.

    •  Jackson's Censure... (0+ / 0-)

I told the girl who answered the phone for "my" senator, Lamar Alexander, that even if they were worried about Bush's place in history, Lamar should still support Senator Feingold's Censure Resolution...after all, Ol' Andrew Jackson was censured and he's still on the $20.00 bill! And, in the meantime, Lamar could sleep at night knowing that, for the first time in a long time, he'd done what's right. Specifically, putting the Constitution over the party. She was pretty surprised, but nice enough, too.
