  •  Stop from what, exactly? (0+ / 0-)

From voicing opinions? Accepting money for advertising? From simply existing? I take ads at my site just like Kos, only for far less money, of course. And, like Kos, I voice my opinions. Would we have to stop doing what we're doing? Or does this only apply to sites that offer such things as ActBlue pages and the like? I'm with you 100 percent, believe me, I'm just trying to educate myself on the issue as much as possible. From how you describe it, enforcement would also be a nightmare.

    •  Well, for example . . . (0+ / 0-)

. . . this site's fundraising -- including every single diary with a fundraising pitch -- would be regulated.

Basically, the "reformers" behind the CDT proposal would like to force sites like this to choose between doing news commentary or political activism, but not both.

And yet they look the other way when FOX does political activism.  So they're putting blogs to a higher standard than the rest of the media.

      •  Know what they should REALLY do? (0+ / 0-)

Tell Google to stop citing bloggers in their "Google News", because most of them aren't providing actual news.

That would be a much more useful course of action, as right now there's a movement among the right-wingers in the blogosphere to make up for dropping readership by bullying Google into treating them as news sources instead of as opinion generators/reprinters of other news.  (Go look up "feingold censure" on Google News right now and you'll see what I mean.  The first twenty-odd cites are all from right-wing bloggers and have no actual reporting of anything other than the bloggers' opinion of Feingold.)
