    about how one effect of campaign finance regulations is to make campaigning so complex as to require more support staff devoted to rules compliance and reporting than the little guy can afford to have. Thus, small campaigns are squashed and the big party operations reinforced. The underbrush (grass roots!) are burned away and only the few big trees remain.

    It's a mess. Unrestricted campaign finance would be bad. Suffocating, stifiling massive regulation is bad too. I guess the balance is a bit on the stifiling side, and going there fast if that 4900 thing passes. And the mix is wrong, it's stifiling in the wrong places and unrestricted in the wrong places. Yup. Needs fixing.
