    like "islamofascist," especially when good old fashioned words like "extremist," and "terrorist" are around.

    The problem with islamofascist, aside from its provenance, and its hysterical overtones, is that it implies a very false comparison.  Fascism implies a state, and a unified political ideology.  Groups like al-Qaidah have neither.

    The closest thing we might find to "islamofascism" is Iran.  Even that is an intellectual stretch, and so long as the good old fashioned word "theocracy" is still perfectly available I don't see the need for it.
