but I read at one point a list of primary reasons why women pursue an abortion and number one on the list was pressure from family and friends.

The examples in that article were as interesting as the comments in this post -- to the effect that "I'll give you the money to get an abortion, but don't even think of living here with the baby..."

We really have to get honest with ourselves as a society about this. The pressures on women and families are tremendous. This just reinforces to me the idea that a law making abortions illegal will work about as well as prohibition in curbing people's behavior.

If I had to take bets about which law would actually lower the abortion rate  a. Increase in minimum wage and pay equity or b. Make abortions illegal, my bet is on a. by a large margin.

I agree with a.  Just thought some others were worth mentioning.

      c) Banning abstinence only sex education.
      d) Requiring pharmacists to fulfill prescriptions for all doctor prescribed FDA approved medications unless contraindicated for medical reasons aka drug interaction, allergy unknoen to doctor, etc...
      e) Free Condoms
      f) Universal Healthcare.  This deserves expansion.
        i) Covering birth control pills.
ii) How many would choose to have the child if their healthcare and the child's healthcare were not an issue?

Repug reason for not doig the above...

"Oh no people might have more sex."

Yeah, like not knowing about sex will slow the biological imperative evolved over millions of years to find the opposite sex and perform the reproductive process.

Oh wait that explains the denial of evolution. In order to overcome the cognitive dissonance you also have deny evolution in order to deny there is an insurmoutable biological imperative.

This keeps happening when I write posts like these other semi-related conservative material starts to become logically consistent within their fantasy land.
