  •  AP? (0+ / 0-)

At first blush, the Flat Hat pieces look like lightly-edited AP stories.  That's not the same thing as plagiarism...

    •  My search didn't turn up any AP story, (0+ / 0-)

on the web anyway.  This WaPo story was the only hit.  Besides it doesn't say AP in the Flat Hat piece.  Maybe they were just trying to make it look like an AP story.

...has a way of tracking down AP stories that no one else can find.  :)

I can't tell for sure, but that looks like a college-paper "Newswire" section.  I don't think that's quite the same sin.  Amusing, yes.

        That story is credited to

        Edward Walsh and Roberto Suro
        Washington Post Staff Writers

        For comparison's sake:

        Domenech:

Officials representing the Justice Department announced Wednesday Attorney General Janet Reno had decided someone from outside the department and the FBI should lead a new investigation into the actions of the FBI prior to the assault on the compound.

        WaPo:

...officials said Attorney General Janet Reno had decided that someone from outside the department and the FBI should lead a new investigation into the use of potentially incendiary tear gas cartridges by federal agents during the final assault on the compound.

        Domenech:

An FBI official also said that on a videotape obtained from the headquarters of the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team in Quantico, a team member is heard being granted permission by a superior to fire flammable military tear gas into the compound more than four hours before it burst into flames, killing 76 people inside.

        WaPo:

An FBI official said that on a videotape, a Hostage Rescue Team member is heard seeking and being granted permission by a superior to fire potentially flammable military tear gas more than four hours before the Branch Davidian compound burst into flames, killing 76 people.

It goes on and on. It's a sentence-by-sentence copy and paste, with a few words tweaked here and there.

I often see stories that have a byline that includes "wire services;" however, in this case, the byline at FlatHat is:

By Marianna Toma and Ben Domenech

        Your president lied to me.

There is no attribution on the FlatHat page.  The only byline is "By Marianna Toma and Ben Domenech."  The pattern of plagiarism continues.

And the fact that he ripped it off from the Post just makes the irony tastier...

Packer, you Republican cannibal, I would sintince ya ta hell but the statutes forbid it.
