    I'm with you on this.

I don't write too many diaries, but I always dread the moment when I have to open up a new browser tab and slog through the "all tags" list, looking for the most-used, most-applicable ones already out there. It's a pain in the ass.

That said, I don't see that there's an easy (i.e. cheap for Kos) way around this problem. Your "related tags" idea sounds great, probably requires a lot of programming. Maybe not. I don't know.

Aside... What follows is not a request for a Daily Kos feature... though something like it might work for autogenerating tags (as I see, thanks to the new real-time comments thing, Drew just suggested while I was typing this).

Wouldn't it be swank if there were a program (ideally a firefox extension) that followed all the links in a collection of bookmarks and scanned the text at each link's target to generate automatically a list of likely bookmark tags (or keywords)? A saved bookmark to a WaPo article might come back with "Washington Post," "Bush," "Iraq," "Pincus," etc. Then, ideally, you could search your bookmarks by tag/keyword and not have to go to the monster hassle of tagging/keywording them all yourself.

    Speaking as a scientist, etc.
