how people are so enamoured with McCain ... especially after the past five years.

I have tremendous respect for him as I cannot imagine that I would have acted as honorably as he did if I had been stuck in a Vietnam prison.  Just as I give deference, to some degree, to a Dole or a Cleveland for their having so clearly sacrificed of themselves for a 'greater good'.

But, there is a difference between recognizing something worthy of respect and losing sight of how more recent actions have enabled disastrous policies ... McCain is an enabler of the worst governance this nation has ever seen.  We need to get enablers treatment ... in retirement ... rather than send them to the White House ...

that is exactly how i feel.

i really consider McCain a great man in many ways and have tremendous admiration for his record of courage and campaign reform and fiscal responsibility. However  his embrace not only of Bush personally (and literally) but more importantly of Bush policies (e.g. the iraq debacle) just removes any possibility that he would ever get my vote.

i doubt he'll get the GOP nomination anyway. even with his warts, he's still too good for the republicans.
