  •  Too much of a military background? (12+ / 0-)

Is that possible?   George Washington too?

    •  That's right. LOL. (0+ / 0-)

Some people here would never have voted for George Washington.  Hysterical but true.

Obviously a debate for another thread, and I don't have a strong position on it, but I can see a case to be made for being nervous about having too many ex-military people in higher government.

Or being nervous about a particular candidate for being too much of a soldier.

This is not a comment on Jim Webb of course.

... one of the problems we face, as a party and a nation, has become the politicization of the armed forces. What we all have to remember (President Bush, as well as, Democrats who don't necessarily appreciate the promise and sacrifice one makes to the military) is that they are here to protect Democracy and not the Republican or Democratic parties.

There is nothing more dangerous, in my mind, than a partisan military -- with the possible exception of an undisciplined, independently minded military. With such an inept leader, the thought of having the military disobey orders and refusing to go to war is tempting, but there is nothing good down that road. And that's coming from an enlisted veteran of Desert Storm who had no problems breaking a few rules and almost got court marshalled for giving a poor Bedouin and his young daughter gas for his broken down Mercedes truck.
