    One grandfather was the second youngest of 13 (!!), a poor Southern sharecropper who left Arkansas at age 14 to work WPA out West, then setted down in Detroit because a man could earn a decent wage for hard honest work.  Another was a coal miner from a Kentucky who came to Detroit to work in steel, my mother didn't have indoor plumbing and lived in camps until she was 5 and came north.

    My dad worked in the auto industry.  I very probably would have died as a child without the health insurance we had.  Times were still tough in our family, even with the unions, but at least I could get to the doctor.  I am the first one in my family to get a degree.  We are Democrats.

    My dad voted for Reagan in '80--it was the bear commercial that got him.  That vote remains his biggest regret in life to this day.

    But as for what is needed to take our party back, I sadly and fearfully agree.
