    to me at least, is the "stay the course" kind of acceptance of the clusterfuck that iraq has become. i think any republican candidate sticking to their guns on iraq will probably not be punished by the republican primary voters. the folks that come out for those things are indeed the diehards. but any candidate of either party that tries to run as a supporter of the war in the 2008 general will be justly crushed like a bug. the nation as a whole has pretty much made up their minds that this whole adventure was a bad, very bad, idea and they want it to stop. they will be looking for the candidate that shows them the way out.

    any candidate who doesn't realize that will get spanked. hard.

      I don't think the Iraq debacle is much of a problem for the GOP as long as Dems send up a candidate who either can't distingish himself on the issue (see Kerry) or comes off as a dove (see Mondale/Dukakis).
