    that were wrong -- that the strategy was wrong too, because there was no reason to believe that regime change, especially regime change imposed from the outside, would enhance the stability of the region.  

    McCain, when asked why he still thought Saddam had been a threat warranting invasion, could only croak the old, "he's a bad bad guy who did bad bad stuff a decade ago."

    "Cobra II" talks about the initial development of invasion plans even before 9/11, which largely focused on a "Southern Strategy" of taking control of Southern Iraq, its ports and its oilfields, which would then enable Iraqi rebels aided by the US to strike at Bagdhad militarily while Saddam was cut off from oil revenue.  

    Taking control of the oilfields -- just to starve Iraq, or to sate our own thirst?  What do you think?
