    •  North wasn't pardoned. (12+ / 0-)

His conviction was overturned on, yes, a technicality (having nothing to do with the actual merits of the case against him -- only that the prosecutor used evidence which could have been discovered through his Capitol Hill testimony, about which he had been granted immunity from testimony).

Right wingnuts hate criminals "getting off on technicalities" - unless they're their criminals.

      •  Should've said, 'immunity from prosecution.' (0+ / 0-)

Not "immunity from testimony", which makes no sense at all.  Bottom line:  nothing North testified to on The Hill could be used against him in criminal prosecution.  That's why he spilled his guts about unabashedly violating Federal Law.  The prosecutor tried to build the case against North in a manner totally independent from North's testimony on the Hill, and did, and prosecuted North, and got a conviction.  But North's attorneys appealed and got the conviction overturned basing the appeal on the possibility that the evidence used in Court could've been "tainted" by North's Hill testimony.

There's more to it than that, but that's a pretty accurate, "in a nutshell" version of what happened.  Note:  the overturning of the conviction had nothing to do with finding North "innocent" of felonious conduct.  Again:  on a technicality.  Bastards.
