I read the comments here and assumed from them that this story was like a Scott Turow novel or something.  A lot of the comments lead one to think that Morrison carried on an affair with the fiance of the man he was investigating.  Why he might have trumped up the entire case so he could have her to himself.

Instead I find that he was investigating a man who was the fiance of a woman with whom Morrison had previously had an affair. And Morrison turned the case over to someone else.  That's a big difference.

I don't condone extramarital affairs and have no stake in Morrison at all, but to twist what was really a piece of bad judgement in his personal life and a piece of really bad luck in his professional life in to a major scandal in his professional life is stretching things.

The "clear conflict of interest" mentioned above wasn't one.  He took himself out of the loop as soon as he was aware of it.

If his wife has forgiven him, I will too.

Still, I realize that the GOP will twist this story to get reactions like the ones on this board that misled me to begin with.  It's probably best for Morrison to lose the nomination for that reason.

It's a pity that in politics and life, a personal misstep outweighs public corruption every time.

State Auditor Morrison allowed the owner of the company to continue his securities scam while trying to payback investors. The Feds stepped in and charged Trucke (the company's owner) with mail fraud and wire fraud and whisked him off to a federal prison in Oregon.

Ignore the affair. Morrison leaves himself open to the charge of coddling white collar criminals.

Thanks for the different take, Ed.

I'm surprised that Morrison let this guy try to work out a fincial settlement, when the Feds hit him with a criminal indictment. It makes him look like he will bend over backwards to try to help even marignally legal businesses.
