  •  Thanks -- I got the idea while canvassing . . . (4.00 / 20)

    last week in PA.

Although I'm glad I did the canvassing, the Kerry folks ended up with many more people than they expected, and we had to split up packets.  As a result, despite committing nearly 12 hours to the endeavor (our bus got lost on the way up), I only ended up speaking to about 12 people.  Plus, I wasn't entirely comfortable with knocking on doors.  (Don't get me wrong -- I think this is essential work -- it's just not my strong suit.)

That led me to wonder how I might be able to use my volunteer time more efficiently, and the pickup truck campaign was the idea that happened to strike me.

      •  No -- My biggest regret (none / 1)

I remembered the Bruce tapes; I remembered the buttons and bumper stickers; I forgot the camera (though my wife did get to watch me do a test drive through the Home Depot parking lot, and she tells me it looked great).

      I think it's a great idea. You rock. (-:
    •  Remember Watergate? (none / 1)

My partner and I drove around with a "Honk If You Think He's Guilty" bumper sticker on our Volvo.

We generated lots of honks and thumbs up and V-signs--and week after week we noticed more and more cars sporting "Honk If You Think He's Guilty" stickers.

This kinda downhome agitprop really works. It's real folks to real folks communication--without the spinmeisters and pundits telling voters what to think about each manufactured sound bite.

    •  Bikes... (none / 0)

      Great idea!

I don't know whether this would work, but..

When I was in Spain, the PSOE students would ride around with these older bikes that had a yard sign on the back mudguard so the the sign ran the same direction as the wheel.  I know that there are lots of old bikes out there.  I think that this would be great for campuses, or places where you have a lot of people walking around.  Since you're out with the people, you can carry a bag full of literature to hand out to people.

Might work, I thought it was interesting.
