  •  uh let's see... (none / 0)

I was behind a car with a sticker that said something like "smile, your mother didn't have an abortion" (someone else know what I'm talking about and have the exact wording?) with a nice happy smiley face on it. I wanted to ram the car. I was behind another "anti-abortion car" at another time--plastered with anti-abortion stuff--but somehow that didn't make me as angry as the sticker with the smiley face on it.

Barack Obama will only become president if enough people pay attention, so pay attention, dammit!

    •  not a bumper sticker, but (none / 0)

there's signs in the windows on campus here at american university with big yellow cardboard smiley faces that say "i'm pro-life!"  so annoying.
      •  Also not a bumper sticker (none / 1)

        I saw a sign in a bar I like.

        I graduated in 1998.  :-)

Please tell me the campus is still overwhelmingly liberal.  I can't bear the thought of AU becoming filled with Bushbots.  (I'm sure there are a few extremely irritating conservatives, there always are.)

    •  I work in an old parochial school building (none / 0)

that's now home to a bunch of private, non-profit social service agencies.  You'd think that it would be a hotbed of subversiveness, but every day i walk past a car that proclaims "Choose Life.  Your mom did!"
    •  how many "pro-life" asshats voted for W? (none / 0)

.. Dubya the Warmonger (invading Iraq was a "war of choice"), Dubya's pro-capital punishment record as Gov. of TX....

fuckin' hypocrites.  it's amazing how 'moral values' are swept under the rug ... as long as we're killing Muslims.

      •  NO NO NO NO NO (4.00 / 3)

        You've got it all wrong!

"Pro-life" only means you care about "the being" UNTIL it is born... because then once it enters the world as we know it, eh, who cares...

Demanding health care for everyone, combatting poverty, opposing war or the death penalty... those don't even come close to what it means to be pro-life.

You silly person you; stop thinking so much!

that's horrifying.   I've never heard that one.

I guess since they're private religious schools, they can get away with it.  Hell, it's probably a selling point.

        •  I think 85% of private US schools are religious. (none / 0)

The real reason why the right-wingnuts utterly despise public education is because liberals go to considerable (and sometimes excessive) lengths to keep public schools 100% secular.

Not to mention that many schools (especially colleges) are known to have overwhelmingly liberal student populations.

      •  Wouldn't liberty (none / 1)

        for the unborn = abortion?

      •  What is liberty for the unborn? (none / 1)

I have an image of a fetus banging on the squishy walls of the womb, yelling through the fluid in a wailing gurgle "LEEEET MEEEEE OOOUUUUT!"
      •  horrible, yes, but if they really meant it (4.00 / 3)

        how could you argue?
My real argument with the so-called pro-life movement is their unbelievable hypocrisy.
Ok, so you want to make abortion illegal, how 'bout making it unnecessary instead?    Make birth control readily accessible and give comprehensive sex ed classes to kids to show them how to prevent pregnancy.  Support women who want to have babies but can't afford it!!  provide for women who want to give their unwanted children up for adoption but can't deal with being unwontedly pregnant for 40 weeks.  Etc. etc.
Quit complaining that it goes on, and do some thing to prevent it from happening to begin with!!!
    •  It's 'SMILE, YOU'RE MOTHER CHOSE LIFE!' (none / 0)

I wish I could find a sticker to stick on those cars, that says,

'But That's Because She Didnt Have a Choice.'

Don't think we have to worry about Denver anymore.
