...I've never impregnated anyone (I've been careful and lucky) so no abortions, and none of the trauma. I was fortunate to figure out while I was a virgin that getting someone unwelcomely pregnant is a huge, huge pain in the ass for everyone involved.
Now I'm with a girl who uses a copper IUD. Yay us!

  I am a girl who uses a copper IUD, and I just want to say, "Yay IUDs!" I tried about half a dozen other methods of BC before this one. The pill (three kinds), the shot (both of them), the patch - I knew I didn't want to have kids any time soon, but I'm not willing to say "no way, ever" and get my tubes tied yet, either. The daily, weekly, monthly crap was getting on my nerves.
  Now I'm 3 years into a twelve-year IUD, and I couldn't be happier with it. The side effects are much less annoying than hormonal methods, plus it's more effective. I figure if I make it through 12 years without wanting kids, I can have it taken out and my tubes tied at the same time. Yay IUDs!

    the copper IUD. In this country, though, it's woefully underutilized, probably due to bad societal memories of the Dalkon shield and some kind of weird fearfulness or distrust about whether people will be monogamous. After child #2, I suggested it to my OB (a couple of years after an offhand discussion with a couple of MD friends at a wedding) who seemed really happy that I did, but I'm not sure if she would have suggested it to me if I hadn't brought it up first.

      I have decided that after this comment I will no longer engage in any discussion of ratings. It's pointless and it's none of my business what someone else chooses to rate high or low.

        Thanks. I apologize for some of my ratings.
        Looking back, there were three or four comments I genuinely felt deserved 1s, and I got carried away with the rest. I tried to remove all of my ratings for the sake of ending this off-topic discussion, but apparently that cannot be done.
