your father smokes to piss you off. If he's like virtually all smokers who still smoke, he's addicted to nictone which happens to be one of the most stubborn addictive substances. Maybe it's not all about you afterall.

  It was just a joke of his I heard a thousand times (actually, he probably got it from some comedian).
  He tried quitting several times, but always went back to it after several months (the longest smoke free period I can remember is about six months), but he has actually cut back considerably--I think this is more because of a cost issue, not health. His friends always smoked, so it was hard from him to get away from it.
  
  I am all for freedom of speech...it makes it easier to identify the idiots.
