I'm a doc in many ways.

Up front, I'm a document, my semiotic eponymy a disclaimer and a claim. You're reading me right now.

Backing that abstruse joke I'm a rock & roll doctor. I'm also a Doctor of Journalism, just like the patron sinner of Gonzo. And I'm a New Orleans keyboard "doctor", like Dr John or the man who popularized the word "gonzo", James Carroll Booker III, but on 102 keys and a touchpad. And I've earned my living as the "tour doctor" on the road with a horde of rock bands and other adventurers.

Napoli tended to insist in our conversation that he had no authority whatsoever. He didn't even accept responsibility for "telling women they can't have an abortion". His demented rationalizations have him claiming he doesn't tell people what to do, because he's a legislator, because legislators "just execute the laws". They don't, and his frantic stagger of toggling contradictions around his personal responsibility traces a ragged knot that ought to choke him, but doesn't. You should call him and ask him about the medical angle. I predict an even bloodier calamity than the one he had in store for me.
