  •  hmmmphf! (none / 0)

don't be so grumpy!  grrrr!  i'll stick my chihuahua on ya!
    •  Yes, let's all be blindly saccharine (none / 0)

      No wait, that'd be stupid.

Sorry, I calls 'em like I sees em.  I don't think I was unduly harsh, I didn't personally insult the individual I was responding to, I just explained why Senator Boxer likely has no need for a "tip jar" (though to be honest I'm not a huge fan of the "tip jar" phenomenon in general, but oh well).

Just because we're generally on the same "side" politically doesn't mean we need to be dogmatically "nice" to each other and avoid being "grumpy."

      •  Oh, for heaven's sake. (none / 1)

Do I really have to put (tongue in cheek) in the post?  I guess so.  sigh.
        •  yes you do damn it! (none / 0)

in fact, it should be an image of a tongue in cheeck  (btw, what DOES a tongue in cheek look like?).

& be careful of how you sigh -- are you crazy?!?!  that could FRIGGIN mean ANYTHING!!   you're just asking to be flamed!

you have to put a "(sigh)" after the "sigh" -- just so that people know that it, yes, REALLY is a sigh!

          be afraid.

          be very very afraid.

          •  Actually, yes (none / 0)

You don't necessarily have to literally put emoticons and other expressions in your post, but it is true that written text is often harder to decipher than actual conversation.  Nuance and other subtle intent is lost, since you only have words and not expressions to go on.

In your case, your sarcasm is detectable, because you wrote it obviously enough.  In b2witte's post that I originally replied to, the apparent "tongue-in-cheekness" was not obvious, to me at least.  It seemed like it was a serious assertion that Boxer should have a tip jar, and as such I gave it a serious reply.

This is obviously not a "real issue" per se, and I realize you're just trying to "lighten the mood": that said, I do think that as a community Daily Kos often gets a little too echo-chambery and self-stroking.  A little self-reflection and criticism can be good.

            •  agreed! (none / 1)

& an excellent suggestion:  a little self-reflection & criticism can be good.  self-stroking is never as good as having others stroke for you.

and having fun & enjoying oneself is also good for the soul -- not to mention the heart.

maybe we all can do both, eh?  i think i (b2 also?) was playfully saying that you were being, well, a bear.

but no, you were never rude & were quite civil (esp., given some on this board).  commendable & always a pleasure to debate with people who can communicate & listen rather than yell & be offended.

              see ya around sir!

              •  Indeed (none / 0)

But don't think that just because I made a few Vulcan-logic-like posts means I never have fun.  Believe it or not, I'm actually a quite flippant person: just ask anyone who knows me out here in meatspace.  Online, however, I do tend towards a more "rationalist" approach, because I like using sites like this as places to keep my mental chops in shape.

Thanks for this exchange though, and I do appreciate the presence of a few "jesters" on sites like this.  It isn't a role I'm suited for, but I'm glad we have folks like you to lighten the mood.

                Keep on keepin' on.

                •  i'm insulted! (none / 0)

                  i'm not a jester!

actually, i think vulcan logic has it's place & i myself can be accused of being both playful & serious.

i think this place & others can be a good place to keep your mind sharp -- however, it's good to get out & have fun sometimes.

we'll last long then :-)....sounds like you've got a good plan for yourself.  congrats.

btw, i like your blog.  i'm just getting active on mine.  if i read more of your blog, i'll add it to my list.  an exchange, as you stated, of any kind is not a bad thing.

live long & prosper.  tell spock i said hi.
