I'd rather that he was (aside from the basic security concerns). If he was issued a pass, a record must exist somewhere of it being issued. Not that we'd ever get a White House record of anything.

Heh.
I haven't watched the whole thing to see if he asks a question.
BTW, you can also see the back of his head (again on the left) as the camera zooms in at the beginning of the 2/28 briefing.
This might be a good way to quickly check the CSPAN tapes to see which ones should be watched in their entirety.

It's at this Ari March 4th, 2003at 24:39 mark.
Transcript read this: Notice the question thrown out after the Gannon question.
Q (voice of Jeff Gannon on video) This is about Iraq. On Saturday, I interviewed Aziz al-Taee, Chairman of the Iraqi-American Council. He detailed a compelling body of evidence about the holocaust being waged against the Iraqi people. Why hasn't the administration focused on this aspect of Saddam's regime to justify intervention without U.N. approval? After all, it was the Clinton administration that used ethnic cleansing as a pretext to bomb and send troops into Kosovo.
MR. FLEISCHER: Well, the administration has frequently pointed that out. And Secretary Powell, in his presentation up in New York, described at some length the crimes committed by Saddam Hussein against his own people. And this is something the President remarks about from time to time. What about the cries on the basis of human rights for the people of Iraq who are suffering under the hand of Saddam Hussein? That is an important issue for the world to face, as well, as the consequences of allowing Saddam to have weapons of mass destruction.

Q What about going in order?

March 3, 2003 briefing
It's right at the 35.10 mark. Watch the Zoom in with the camera when going for the girl. He's in a dark suit in the rows behind him. It zoom in on the photo ID in the end. He didn't ask any questions so there was no true verification. But I'm pretty damn sure it's him.

Maybe you should write a new diary summarizing Gannon's early access to the Press Room, with these photos - I'm afraid it's probably lost down here. That way, the media who comes by Kos today will see it.

A hard pass has your photo and news org and name on it. A daily pass is just a brown and white striped pass that says, "Press," on it and comes on a dog-tag style chain. Note that the one Gannon wears in the footage on TV is a blue lanyard - not the sort of thing a day pass comes on."
From SusanG's interview posted today with Dana Millbank. (The interview took place before the revelations of JG's escort service were up on AMERICAblog.) What "news org" would have been on that pass on Feb. 28, 2003?

Plus, even if he had just gotten in, how did he start to get called on so regularly, so quickly?
Another thing to listen for is if he ever qualifies himself as "Jeff Gannon of ..." at any time.
And yep, no lanyard... so no pass?

But I like him better as this Paul Gannon (had missed this post earlier), especially given the St. Louis connection. I am convinced that the Swift Boat people are in this somehow.
I don't have time just now to do any more on this, so if someone wants to run with it, go ahead.
