    Start a movement to withhold all financial contributions to the diocese until the Bishop's past is fully and openly investigated. Contributions can be made to unaffiliated Catholic charities or an escrow account, which is what occurred in Massachusetts.

    these priests were only ACCUSED of molestation. That doesn't necessarily mean that they did in fact do the deed. Anyone remember the late Cardinal Bernardin of Chicago? But isn't suicide a confession of guilt? I'm not so sure. For some of these priests, the ostraicism from the accusations may have been too much to bear. So, in this case, I think a Catholic burial may have been warranted. The stuff about forgiveness may have been a bit much, though.
    Now, for those priests whose guilt is obvious, like say, the late Father Geoghan (who was killed in prison).. if HE got a Catholic burial while gays were denied, that WOULD be an outrage.

      The Bishop should and will face the consequences for his assumption that a gay person 'violates Catholic tenets' by simply BEING gay. If he had acted specifically in some way to violate law overtly, that would be one thing - but the Bishop, by denying the man the right to be buried there solely on the basis of what is, in essence, hearsay, is profane in the extreme.
      It's the exact same thing to condemn the priest for an allegation of abuse before direct evidence is brought.
      Imho, he has abrogated his responsibility to represent Christ's love.

      suicide is a mortal sin in the Catholic Church. Until 20 years ago, the bodies of those who committed suicide were not buried in Catholic cemeteries. So, for the Bishop to preach forgiveness in one case and not in another....
