Last Monday my boss's wife (that I work for directly) actually popped off w/ "they should have gotten out, they are dumb to have stayed"!?! Later she said it again, but added "why didn't they just load up the SUV and get out???" - Um, nice talk ye who have a multistory home in a very nice neighborhood and two luxury autos.  Heck, my paid for, but very used auto couldn't get me out of town in an evac situation!!!  And I make a decent wage!  The boss himself blew a gasket on Tuesday ranting about how insurance rates were going to skyrocket owing to these idiots that just "have to live on the water!!!"...Again, I offer - Ummm...yeaaaaaaaah, you know what???!!! I didn't hear a PEEP from him last year when Florida was sadly being bitch-slapped by hurricane after hurricane and there were far more 'pleasure homes' there that were battered into another state than in New Orleans.  Most of the homes lost were not only in the poorer areas that yeah, were low - cause over the history of the development of N.O. once it sprang past the Quarter - the 'haves' built on the higher ground leaving the swampier-trended bits to the poorer folks building homes.  Not to mention most of the homes lost throughout the New Orleans area (incl the surrounding cities) were very old!  These weren't 'pleasure homes' built on the edge of a toney beach!!!  These weren't Trent Lott Lodges - they were small, they were aged, but they were HOME, that's right HOME a FULL TIME HOME to families!  They made COMMUNITIES not some gated enclaves of snobbery.  AUUUGGHH!!!  Of course, I had to keep my pie hole shut - boss man and boss lady talking, and getting paid is a good thing right now, especially as I can mete out my visits to my beloved New Orleans and for now mete out donations to help get her and her residents back on their feet.
Let's push on to get/keep this mess in the front pages and urge our elected officials to IMPEACH this fool and his administration!!! (can they be sacked at least if not impeached???)  Imagine the Second Line Parade the day shrub goes to jail???  Too late for many unnecessarily lost to the Iraq war and Hurricane Georgina, er Katrina - but that will be a noble cause worth celebrating!!!
