  •  Do they need to be drawn a diagram? (4.00)
    Fine. Here it is.

    The Diagram

    Here's how the fake story of "Democrats took money from Abramoff" works. I pay my accountant to do my taxes, and I give you some money for your birthday. My accountant later goes to jail for laundering money to the Mafia so YOU TOOK MONEY FROM A CROOKED ACCOUNTANT OMG WTF!

    But follow the money:

                  My Crooked
        Me  ----> Accountant
        |            |
        |            |
        v            v
       You       The Mafia

    If you can't work out how "money from me to you" plus "money from me to my crooked accountant" equals "money from my crooked accountant to you", join the club.

    It's exactly the same diagram when you replace "me" with "Indian tribes", "my crooked accountant" with "Jack Abramoff", "you" with "Democrats" and "The Mafia" with "Republicans".  Follow the money:

     Indian         Jack
     tribes ----> Abramoff
        |            |
        |            |
        v            v
    Democratic   Republican
    politicians  politicians

    The Lie Evolves

    Now they're changing the lie to "Abramoff directed the tribes to give money to Democrats". This would still not be something wrong even if it were true, but in fact it's still a lie. The tribes continued to give money to Democrats after they became clients of Abramoff (albeit less than they did before they became his clients), but they did so against Abramoff's advice.

    Abramoff directed them to give money to Republicans, and they did in fact give more money to Republicans after than they had before, as well as giving less money to Democrats than they had before.

    The sole and complete basis of the lie that Jack Abramoff bribed Democrats is that his clients' contributions to Democrats fell, but not to zero!
