John Reisenweber, who issued the blunt political threats against Isaac and Mike Callaghan, is not on Capito's campaign staff, he's a government employee.

And he seems to have a sordid history of partisan hot-headedness while living off the public dole. Moments after the Daily Mail article hit the web, the Pendleton Times editor received a call from Stephen Skinner, a Democrat attorney in Charles Town, WV. Skinner told the Pendleton Times editor that Reisenweber is a notorious "hot head" who almost had to be forcibly removed by the police from the Charles Town Dem headquarters in '04 because of a temper tantrum he threw there (he was reportedly about one shout away from provoking HQ staffers into reaching out and touching 911).

Reisenweber is not a salaried member of Capito's campaign staff. He's her official Field Staff Representative for WV's Eastern Panhandle counties.
His annual salary, paid for by us, is around $58,500. That's a lot of money in a little rural county like Pendleton.

The Capito mob is making ugly noises and rattling legal sabers at people like Isaac, the bumper sticker guy and others, because they weren't aware of the "and not authorized by any candidate" tag.
Shouldn't she be held to a similar, if not higher, standard?

Now Reisenweber's running around issuing public political threats and spreading rumors about Callaghan?

Who do they think they are?

P.S. I'm the new Kossack who asked Carnacki to post the original email. I know the Pendleton Times Editor very well!

I "Like Mike!" and think that Shelley Moore, at her very best, is the most empty vessel I have ever met.

I'm not sure how they can get away with saying this is illegal whether or not it says it's authorized by a campaign or not. Certainly my letters to the editor aren't part of the campaign. And the blog posts aren't either.

Well, Watson, we seem to have fallen upon evil days. Sherlock Holmes.

It's about independent expenditures on behalf of (or against) candidates. There's precise language required under the campaign finance statutes. AFAIK (INAL) the Surpreme Court is just fine with disclosure restrictions for free speech as long as they are viewed are not overly onorous.
