Free and independent press has long been compromised, most noticeably since circa 1999-2000, perhaps not coincidentally when Rove entered the national scene, and that's precisely what is allowing the rotting of our democracy to its core, as Al Gore talked about in his Oct. 5 We Media address. Until we find ways to restore freedom of press, the uphill climb will be painfully arduous.
