  •  thank you for an excellent diary! (none / 0)

i am curious, though - in several places in your diary, you spell women as womyn.  is this by choice or subconscious altering?

in the tags, the spelling is correct.

oddly enough, in the situations you described above, i can understand eliminating "men" from this scenario!

    just curious.

thanks again for a great diary!

    •  It's by choice. (none / 0)

It's an amusing attempt at prescriptivist language change.  Supposedly a strike back at the idea that "-men" is a sexist syllable.  It's been around for at least 15 years.

In the end, Words Still Mean Things, and I don't see the spelling change catching on beyond very limited sub-cultures.

I'll stick with: "I'm a feminist because I believe the radical notion that women are people".

      •  fun! i DID get it! (none / 0)

being around for the birth of the movement in the 60's - and sadly watching feminist become a dirty word - i am in total agreement with you.

when people asked me if i were a feminist, i would always reply, "i am a person first, THEN i am woman!"

too bad people tend to forget that - it applies to gays, to minorities, to gender, to religion - it is basic human.
