It was entitled "The Real Soul of the Democratic Party," and it implied that Dean supporters were over-educated elitists. Well, that caused Mrs. DTM to erupt. She faxed Al From and Bruce Reed, the majordomos of the DLC, a letter. It asked the famous question, "so how come your fancy education is good but mine isn't?" Needless to say, she never got a reply.

I knew him when we were kids in Idaho, both growing up in Dem politics. I worked with his Mom a lot on GOTV for Ada County in 1994--she was in the State Senate then. I wrote what I thought was a very reasonable and friendly note, reminding him of these ties, my family history, my involvement in Idaho politics, letting him know I thought his memo was full of shit. Never heard back from him.

By any chance were you doing GOTV for Margaret Henbest in 1996 when she won by 7 votes? This was for the 16th District of the State Representatives against Sylvia McKeeth.
As it turns out, Sylvia is my cousin. Not that I have anything in common with her political views.

I bailed from Idaho after '94. It was far too depressing to stay there after that election. It was the most brutal political experience ever. We had a phenomenal slate of candidates. Just outstanding. We lost every statewide seat but State Auditor, the one Congressional seat we held, and I don't remember how many state legislators, but most of them. It was absolutely gruesome.
