President Carter, I genuinely appreciate your reply to my question. I will be blogging it at my own blog, Nation-Building.
I just want to say that I think that you do not get enough credit for how you were the first to tie human rights to foreign policy. Sometimes, it seems like you were also the last.

If I may be bold, Mr. President I would like to hear your advice on how we as a nation can encourage the moderates in the middle east to effect reform and change. Surely not all support need be at the barrel of a gun :)

but basically decided to shut up on that one because the Kossacks were all over it. In retrospect, I regret my inaction at the time. I agree with you azizhp, and with President Carter. I think the Dems were wrong on this one, and it is one of only 1-2 times in 6 years that I actually agreed with the Bush Administration (perish the thought, considering what I think of them usually).
As an Iraqi-American academic born and raised in New Orleans, this voter is not pleased.
