While there are more examples on both sides, I agree with your premise.

"Love your neigbor as yourself." Leviticus 19:18. Jeus was just quoting the "Old Testament"
Also the New Testament and Jesus assume and affirm the laws of the Old Testament see Matthew 517-18.

and I would agree that Jesus said some remarkably good and "radical" things for his time. Here is an excellent article on that very issue. However, the 10 Commandments (Old Testament) are a big issue for the Religious Right right now.

We don't follow these either. Christ said "love thine enemy", We say get your enemy before he gets you. Christ says turn the other cheek. We say wage war. We ignore the laws we don't like.
