too seriously. I can't help but feel that the same GOP who were able to win one of the most discriminatory anti-gay ballot initiatives in 2004 are so deluded into thinking that that vote was indicative of the kind of social conservative legislation they can pass in that state. It's either that drunk with power impulse that is driving them or the GOP is in such a precarious position in the state, they feel like they might as well try the most radical legislation they previously would not have attempted because they were afraid of losing power. For them this is a Hail Mary pass: either it will stir up the base into such a frothing fury that they'll come out in droves come November or it will backfire so badly that they will be put out of the statehouse and legislature for the next generation.

I live in my own little world...but it's okay. They know me here.

Republicans in this state are absolutely incapable of accomplishing real improvements in the economy, education and health care because they are so venal and so corrupt that their focus has been almost entirely on selling themselves to the highest bidder. So they have to distract voters with "moral" issues bills (ban all abortions, no gay adoption) or trivia ("choose life" license plates! regulating the distance a lapdancer must stay from her clients!)

The problem with governance is Ohio is that there basically is none, none that's effective and serving the citizens, anyway.

We're retiring Steve LaTourette (R-Family Values for You But Not for Me) and sending Judge Bill O'Neill to Congress from Ohio-14: http://www.oneill08.com/

      ..gone for a generation.

I gotta head out for a picnic in a couple minutes, but when I get back on the computer I'll email my state senator and rep and strongly urge them to oppose this shit. They're Democrats so they may actually listen.

Now supporting Obama. Will vote for HRC if she's nominated. Still busting trolls.

..here I am, answering myself. Just posting to report what I did, in case anyone cares.

My state senator turns out to be a Republican; district runs to the Cinti suburbs, so I didn't waste electrons on him. It's a House bill anyhow. Tod Book is the assistant minority leader, and I sent him an email urging him to oppose this strongly. Hopefully it'll do some good.
