I haven't had a problem recently, but did 3 times in the past. It turns out my name is fairly common. The only case where it was a problem, my wife was going to pay rather than fight, but I refused on principle. The debt collector was LDS, so I didn't get to hear any swear words, just a lot of stupid reasons why the debt was mine. I can see a lot of people just giving in rather than suffer from the stupidity.

I had a debt collector call a couple of years ago and the name was the same except for the middle initial. They dropped it with respect to me, but it made me wonder if they aren't simply casting a big net and letting us do the process of elimination for them.

found the guy who kept bouncing checks and told the bill collector where to find him. Cost me a call to information.
