Comments: Expand Shrink Hide (Always) | Indented Flat (Always)
This was in my corner of Europe, of course, not in the United States, but the channel for which she works has recently gone downhill... much like FOX (only a bit worse, I think). She said that she doesn't have a problem with broadcasting such drivel since journalists are meant to only repeat the information given to them without taking sides, that is without commenting
This statement of course struck me as odd so I probed further:
''But don't you think that it would be in the interest if the viewers to point out an obvious lie?''
''No. They have to find that out for themselves. Our job is only to report the news.''
''But how might the viewers find out the truth if they cannot gain access to the real information?''
''That's beside the point...''
And so on and so on...
How can we realistically expect the voters to make a wise, educated choice if all they know about the world is a manipulative drivel that they're expected to sort out? Most people don't have the time or the persistence to do it, which everyone in power knows full well. If there arfe no media standards, if journalism becomes simple repetition instead of an investigative, intellectual duty to the public, can we really expect our democracy to be anything more than a charade?

Sounds like she'd be a perfect fit for Fox. Tell her to pack her bags.

Unfortunately that's what they teach 'em at college these days so it's not really her fault. She's a nice person otherwise, such a shame about her professional beliefs.
Of course, the scary thing is that she took the tongue-in-cheek suggestion about workin for FOX as a compliment. I swear, sometimes I feel like giving up on humanity... but it's such fun when someone doesn't know that he or she's being wound up (but those around him or her do).

ya know TINA, they use her well.
That's why the American corporate media is licking boot so much! If they don't keep the public distracted from the war on drugs, they won't have a steady supply of crystal meth anymore!
...Okay, I dunno. Was that pushing it into bad taste?

"repeat the information given to them without taking sides, that is without commenting"
That's not journalism; it's stenography. And objectivity does not permit false equivalency, which is the inevitable result of her flawed methodology.
