I wasn't thinking about the differences in a senator's lifestyle compared to everyone else's with most of the money going into a mortgage and savings and such (if you're lucky and make enough for such things) with just a relatively small amount of that 150k being sunk on groceries and utilities.  Paying rent on another house in a place like DC must be especially painful.
