What a good way to celebrate hitting the magical 100,000 mark on registered users- a welcome to reality diary.
Registered users are like the tip of the blog iceberg- the other 90% of the daily readers are the ones that the republicans riding on the unsinkable Bush Titantic should be worried about.

I never thought when I signed on back in the Dean days I'd be one of the ancients. Man, my UID of 277 makes me a veritable "old timer".

Is it true back then that you had to crank up your computer -- with a real crank -- to get it going?

I didn't know any of you were still alive? What was it like before they switched from steam power and installed the bigger tubes? Has the site always been orange, Poppi?

people I know had bong hits for breakfast, and youthful indescretions happen to the best of them (if you think smoking pot is an indiscrete thing to do).

read Dune at an impressionable age, had the hots for Duncan Idaho ever since.
Although, as I recall from sequels (before the series became unreadable, and I had to give it up) - aren't you a Tleilaxu ghola now?
Well, if we've even got the Gholas, Kos REALLY rocks!

those that know realise that there were about 3000 users who made the leap to Scoop when it happened, all within less than a week, about Oct 12, 2003, iirc so 1179 puts you a day later in registering than me. You are probably a pre-Scoop greybeard, like me, if you remember back three years.
by claude on Wed Aug 09, 2006 at 08:42:06 PM PDT
Man. I remember the pre-Scoop site, all the stuff that was here in the good old days...I just never registered and contributed 'cuz I never had the time. The result? My fiance', who I introduced to the site, has a lower userID than I do.

So sorry I have a lower user number. I remember telling you how much cooler the site was once I stopped lurking. Aren't you glad you signed up, now?
:) Love ya.

...over your user name in any comment you've made, and look at the url that pops up on the status bar that's (usually) at the bottom of your browser window. The last part will read /uid:75915 in your case, giving you a user ID number of 75915. Mine is 89822, meaning I signed up at least a few weeks after you did.
The answer to this question is also one of the commonly-asked questions in the FAQ, along with other things like how to block-quote.
