... we will remember that there is something happening in America; that we are not as divided as our politics suggests - Barack Obama

I'm glad the evening was a resounding success. May the rest of Idaho follow your lead!

where's my old home town of Idaho Falls? Alas, I knew so many wonderful Dem families there as a kid. It seems they've swung right these days.
It used to be, because of the NRTS, that the area was quite liberal because of all of the "auslanders". Perhaps it is not so anymore.
by CJB on Mon Jan 22, 2007 at 10:29:27 PM PDT
My acronyms are failing me ... the NRTS must be what's now the Idaho National Laboratory, right? (The nuclear ressearch facility west of town?)
Yep, Idaho Falls is pretty staunch GOP country these days, though it sent one Dem to the state legislature this year for the first time in many years. So there's hope ...
Pocatello, by contrast, remains a Dem stronghold. Boise, too - and Sun Valley, obviously.

In it's previous incarnation it was the Nuclear Reactor Test Site. Yes, I'm sure the astounding rate of cancer in our family had nothing to do with that. (Tinfoil off, now.)

Ah, the good old days. I can hardly wait for them.

he has to and he will win. To hell with Hillary and Obama... they don't have it.
Al.... come on!!

He shouldn't be perpetuating urban legends in his wonderful presentation... The Crisis = Opportunity thingie just keeps popping up and making people look bad... now claiming that it's so in Japanese characters is not good at all... just sayin... if anyone has proof otherwise, I will stand corrected...
Dudehisattva...

I now see that someone else has pointed this out earlier... sorry.
by Dood Abides on Tue Jan 23, 2007 at 02:48:47 AM PDT
I would try to ignore you, but you are the Dood, so shouldn't I take what you are saying as snark & address it anyway? ;) Fascinating link, but I still think it's safe to say that the character for crisis includes elements of the character for opportunity, and in the world of English metaphorical discursion, that's enough!

See my post below. The site you reference is talking about Chinese, but Gore was talking about his trip to Japan where in fact the word "kiki" does have symbols for opportunity and danger.
Look it up -- here is an example
by olevy on Tue Jan 23, 2007 at 06:34:50 AM PDT
View your example vs. Dood's debunking page. The kanji are exactly the same (using the tradtional Chinese ji).

and, when I heard, I am almost certain that he said Chinese -- not Japanese ... but ... worth checking up on ...

And, he says Chinese in introduction to the AIT book:
As many know, the Chinese expresession for "crisis" consists of two characters side by side [characters]. The first is the symbol for "danger," the second the symbol for "opportunity."

Watched that game and still can't over how almost miraculous it was.
Ironic, isn't it, that it involved a play named Statue of Liberty.
Gore is right: It's all about will. Whether it's political will, or the will to win a game despite being given little chance.

I have been saying this for a year. Gore/Obama is the dream ticket. We would own the White House for the next 16 years. I have my Gore 2008 bumper sticker on my car. It is staying on until Gore makes a Shermanesque statement. (I never should have taken off the Attack Iraq? NO! sticker that I put on the car in 2002.)
