It's my first time on the list, that'll do for me. I've been watching the comedy that was SOTU and hoping to hear from Sen. Durbin shortly.
Thanks Laura!

Please. I would have posted the comments, the words "SOTU: discuss", and let it go at that.

Ariodante by Handel. It's the second in the set of three Ariosto operas, all of which are being put on in the 2006–2007 season.
It's a concert version, but it should be quite effective even so.

Don't be expecting any humility from me on this 'cause all of you who have done this gig KNOW how tough it is. I'm proud of every one of those 26 diaries and only hope I will be allowed to continue since Ambrosius seems to want to take a contract out on me or something... lol!
All this and Jim Webb, too! Life is GOOD!

I need some steadier income 'cause I just got turned down for my disability (again) - we'll appeal but I don't have much hope.
Until I do (find work), ya'll are stuck with me, I guess.
by va dare on Tue Jan 23, 2007 at 08:11:39 PM PDT
va. Not fair at all. But we love having you around - that's for sure;-)
by Cronesense on Tue Jan 23, 2007 at 08:13:13 PM PDT
I've considered 'selling' shares in the RedBird, e.g., getting some silent partners who believe in a) independent bookstores, and b) good food in a cool meeting place. For example, I've decided to not go to DC on the 27th - instead, I'm hosting a public showing for IAVA of 'The War Tapes.' No entrance fee but (as I did when I showed 'An Inconvenient Truth') I'll put out a tip jar for contributions to offset the food. That will be a good gathering - got 14 signed up so far and the RSVPs / inquiries are still coming in.
I've also decided to do a second showing of An Inconvenient Truth - the teachers around here are too intimidated by the coal industry to show it in their classrooms but there are several folks around here who have asked me to do it again. So I'll do that the second weekend in February...
by va dare on Tue Jan 23, 2007 at 08:19:26 PM PDT
leave it to you to be so proactive and do that for your community. Kudos, dear lady! And it gets some people inside to see what the RedBird is all about ;-)
by Cronesense on Tue Jan 23, 2007 at 08:31:01 PM PDT
to get within striking distance, assuming I could do it every week, which I can't.
Far better that you worry about folks like Ambrosius; I'm nicely back in the pack.
Fingers crossed that you find a good teaching gig soon...and that the appeal does come through this time.
by sardonyx on Tue Jan 23, 2007 at 08:16:53 PM PDT
so MissLaura now stand at 14.
by Cronesense on Tue Jan 23, 2007 at 08:11:44 PM PDT
where the 222 (now 223) top comments diaries came from, since there are only 219 top comments tags as of this morning. That would mean three TC diaries aren't tagged properly. Hmm.
Okay, just found the first non-tagged one: Ben's on 7/16. I should say: formerly non-tagged Top Comments diary. :)
by sardonyx on Tue Jan 23, 2007 at 08:36:40 PM PDT
I ran different types of searches on individual names, on titles and so forth. None of them quite agreed, but the indivudal names caught all of them. I learned a lot about searching today. Hope I never have to do that much again!
by Cronesense on Tue Jan 23, 2007 at 08:41:17 PM PDT
so it's probably my error. I get 222 including tonight's, rather than 222 excluding tonight's.
As best I can determine, TC started on 14 June 2006, and has only missed two days—July 2 and December 31—since then. I added four missing "Top Comments" tags: July 3, 4, 6, and 16: two for va dare, and two for BeninSC. Like they needed more. :)

There's no feeling in the world quite as helpless as reading a Hunter comment and realizing that there's no "Recommend" button to be found because the comment is more than a day old.

Thanks, too, to Chumley for the Hunter comment - just copied that into an e-mail for my son - it mirrors some of the conversations we've had of late (though nowhere as eloquent as Hunter does it here).
