the best defensive performance I can ever remember seeing.
Let's Go Gators!

Chris Leak kept his head and even our FG kicker didn't miss. Florida did everything right.
And the Bucks looked like they had been out partying all last night. Amazing. I thought we were in for a real drubbing. I'm still shell shocked.

Leak was fine. The offense was fine. But the defense was the story.
Destroyed Ohio State's offensive line on virtually every play.

...about defense and championships.

Defense is just the flip side of offense.
It is a stupid saying.

I couldn't disagree more.
A dominant defense can shut down ANY offense, no matter the quality.
Of course, I played defense.

Remember that dominant FSU defense in 1996 (97 actually)?
52-17.

go look them up. I don't recall being terribly impressed with anything but their defensive line. But it was a while ago.

BTW, Herbstreit makes a great point on ESPN - we really did not see this Florida team all year.
In other words, I THOUGHT, at the beginning of the year that they COULD have been this type of team but were not.
To wit, they actually underachieved during the season.

I never thought they were nearly this good. I agree.
And I went and looked up the 'Noles that year. You have a point. 11 pts. per game, 59 yard rushing per game . . . pretty damned impressive.

And to my mind, that - more than anything else - is demonstrative of the SEC's superiority.
Congratulations.

in the athleticism of the Gator defensive front over the OSU line was overwheleming.

The Buck are used to facing a big lumbering line. They didn't know what to do with the speed of ours

was actually quite a harbinger wasn't it?

Michigan was uneven all season.

"unbeatable" sort of tag attached to them by the media. We were on the other side of it four years ago when we beat Miami. It makes for great drama, while ignoring the reality that the underdog was good enough to get to the game, so the outcome can't be that much of a foregone conclusion.
A couple other unbeatables I remember are the Oakland A's in the 1990 World Series (swept by Cincinnati) and UNLV's basketball team (defeated by Duke in a 1991 final four game).
Oh yeah, the media did the same thing to Al Gore in the 2000 election debates...

Defense wins championships.
It's great . . . to be . . . a Florida Gator!!!

except when offense wins them.
It is the same thing. Just the flip side.
I hate that saying.
