you'd think it would be a simple yes or no wouldn't you, and it is. The fact is that they have already answered the question by their avoidance of the truth. Today america stands for torture. Thanks to this president we have become exctly what 100's of thousands of us have died fighting against. Oppressive, corrupt, torturing fucking lunatics.
The trick is in what one emphasizes. We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves happy. The amount of work is the same." Carlos Castaneda

that what this country has become doesn't take anything away from your fathers service, ideals or passion in his beliefs about america. His idealism remains alive in all of us no matter how hard the neocons try to stomp it out.

but I am so grateful for the reminder. Sometimes it's very hard to remember. Thank you, FireCrow.

"It is for us the living rather to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us - that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion--that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth."
What our fathers, grandfathers, and uncles did cannot be diminished. They did their part. Now it's up to us to keep the country that they fought for alive and well... and just maybe usher in a "new birth of freedom."

You know, I've thought about this a lot recently, and it's not actually JUST because of the President, it's because not enough Americans have stood up and said clearly:
NOT IN MY NAME! NEVER IN MY NAME!
