this is the sentiment of many people I know. These people are not radicals (like me), or even overtly political. They are disheartened, semi-defeated, and cynical. They really want to believe, and are attracted to candidates like Obama and Edwards and Dodd (I am the lone Kucinich enthusiast). They want to believe in, for instance, Obama's hope.

But the non-performance and the assorted betrayals of a number of Democrats (like Feinstein and Schumer on Mukasey, like a myriad on the Military Commissions Act, etc.) have drained their enthusiasm, and left them in a listless state of political apathy.

And all of them see another year of Bush & Co. has tantamount to the near destruction of our democracy. I think that could be a little dramatic. But they may also be right. It's that bad in America in 2007.
